Cancelling an appointment

There are two things here: your right to cancel under consumer law, and our own rule about appointments cancelled at short notice. This page explains both.

Last updated: [DATE]

Your 14-day right to cancel

Because appointments are booked by phone, text or email rather than face to face in a shop, you have the right to cancel within 14 days of booking, without giving a reason. This is a legal right and it applies whatever we might say elsewhere.

What this means in practice. Most appointments happen within a few days of booking, so they fall inside the 14 days. If you ask us to carry out the visit inside that period, we will ask you to confirm two things in writing when we confirm the booking:

  • that you want the visit to go ahead before the 14 days are up; and
  • that you understand that once the visit has been completed in full, your right to cancel it ends.

That is not a trick: it is what the law requires if a service is to start inside the cancellation period. If you would rather not confirm that, the visit will be arranged for after the 14 days have passed instead.

If you asked us to start inside the 14 days (by replying YES to your booking confirmation) and then cancel during the 14 days after a visit has been partly carried out, we may charge for the work already done, in proportion to the whole booking. If we failed to give you the cancellation information before you booked, we cannot charge for that work at all.

Cancelling an appointment you have already booked

Once a booking is outside the 14-day window, for example a follow-up visit for an existing customer, our own rule is:

When you cancelWhat happens
More than 24 hours before the appointmentNo charge
Within 24 hours of the appointmentUp to 50 per cent of the appointment price may be charged
You are not in when we arrive, or the appointment cannot go ahead for a reason within your controlThe full price may be charged

We use discretion on this. If you are ill, or something has happened that you could not have planned for, tell us and we will not charge you.

How to cancel

Tell us by phone, by text or by email. A clear message is enough, and you do not need to use a form.

If you would rather use a form, the one below is the standard form the consumer regulations provide. You can copy it into an email or print this page.

Refunds

If you cancel and a refund is due, we pay it within 14 days of you telling us, using the same method you paid with, and we do not charge a fee for refunding.

If we cancel, because of illness, bad weather or anything else on our side, you pay nothing, and anything you have already paid is refunded in full.

Cancelling because of something we did wrong

Nothing on this page affects your other legal rights. If our work was not carried out with reasonable care and skill, you are entitled to a remedy under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 whatever this page says. See our terms of service.
